Traditional Chinese dragon & lion dance · Berlin · Guangdong tradition
The dragon has moved through Asia for a thousand years as a sign of prosperity, strength and abundance. Dragon Fest opens with a full acrobatic troupe performing traditional dragon and lion dance in Guangdong style — pole-work, drums that you feel before you hear, and choreography built to bless a new beginning. This is what the festival is named for and it is worth the ticket alone.
Ancient Chinese strings · China
The guzheng is a 21-string plucked zither. The erhu is a two-string bowed fiddle that has been called the Chinese violin. Together they carry centuries of melody. Their Dragon Fest set drops the tempo of the festival to zero — a moment of quiet before the drums come back in.
